Autumn Walk

On Wednesday we visited Matthew in Bristol and went round the Cabot Circus shopping centre. A brilliant piece of design. This is the roof

Yesterday we went on a walk around Southwell. It was fairly late in the day and the sun was quite low, bringing out those Autumn colours. We went up to Brackenhurst and came back through the Minster yard.

The River Trent from Newark to Nottingham part one

I have set myself a project for the year The River Trent from Newark to Nottingham. I took the first set of photographs on a very bright Tuesday morning in mid-February after a meeting in Newark.

The following Saturday I went to Farndon and walked back towards Newark aiming to get some shots across the river of the new Staythorpe Power Station. Annoyingly the power station isn't as good looking from the North as it is  from the South. I did get some quite good shots though. There was quite a large munber of water fowl about which added interest to some shots.

First Foray of February

The February Countryside
It was a very dank, February afternoon but I took my camera with me when I went to the golf range. I drove through Halam and up the little lane to Oxton top. Attracted by some newly flowering catkins I stopped by a small wood and a derelict gate. I took half a dozen shots of the gate, wood and a ploughed field opposite. At the bottom of Oxton hill four sheep were feeding on a small mound of hay.

It was a dank day

After hitting some golf balls I spotted a newly laid hedge and tried to find some interesting patterns.A bit of under exposure will hopefully recreate the gloomy mood of the rainy day.

Getting signed up

Signed up to the next DSLR Skills course run by Practical Photography. I've done two already. Haven't taken many photos recently.
Took the camera to the Sheffield Arena last week and took some shots during Young Voices. Used the Gorillapod that I was given for Christmas for the first time. Many challenges at an event like that. The low light levels necessitate a high ISO as flash never captures the atmosphere. Experimented with some long exposures which didn't work. Quite pleased with some of the general shots. This is probably the best of them.
