A glimpse of February sunshine

On the way home from a supermarket trip we spotted this clump of early snowdrops in a sheltered corner of a garden.

When we had unloaded the car of shopping I collected my camera and walked back up the road to photograph them.

On the way past the pub I spotted the sun shining through the patterned glass of the porch way.

The flour mill was converted into flats a few years ago. The sun was bringing out the colours of the bricks on the entrance wall.

By the time I got to the snow drops the sun had gone in.

Monday walk in the snow

This Monday I was able to walk up into the centre of Southwell while the snow was falling.

There were not many people about but there was a lady walking a golden labrador which was enjoying the snow.

A couple of shops had left stock out in the snow. Welcome colour amongst all the white.

A couple of cars had a "coming together".

Then home for a nice cup of tea and a slice of toast.

The full album of this walk can be seen here

Early Autumn at Norwood

I love Autumn. The light and colours can be fantastic. Early in the evening on the local golf course with camera and tripod, dodging wayward shots and leaping watercourses I managed to get these shots as the leaves are beginning to turn.

Berries aplenty

Elderberries
Near to our house is a footpath that was once a railway line. Alongside grows a large number of elder and hawthorn bushes. This year they are all abundant with red and black berries. Taking advantage of an early September, sunlit evening, I took a number of photographs, handheld with a telephoto zoom.

Hawthorn berries
On the way home the path led through a sunlit tunnel between two hedgerows. I pressed the shutter, unintentionally, while getting into position for a shot. the result is this effective piece of impressionism.

New things

I have been playing with some new additions to my photographic repertoire. Just after Christmas I bought a wireless trigger and updated to Elements 10. Although I have had a previous version of Elements I have never really explored it. Photographic magazines mention "layers" a lot so I thought that it was time to try them.

I watched the SimonSez videos http://www.SimonSezIT.com and had a go. With my new wireless trigger I took some shots of my self sitting on a sofa and then combined them for a double self-portrait.

In December we went for a walk round Southwell. I took a photograph of Southwell Minster from the edge of the town.

Behind me was a field of corn.
The two photographs combined make an interesting effect.

I know that neither image is perfect, but for a first attempt I'm fairly pleased.

Autumn Walk

On Wednesday we visited Matthew in Bristol and went round the Cabot Circus shopping centre. A brilliant piece of design. This is the roof

Yesterday we went on a walk around Southwell. It was fairly late in the day and the sun was quite low, bringing out those Autumn colours. We went up to Brackenhurst and came back through the Minster yard.
